Project / Build: Yamaha XJ 750 Trike (Trike-lops)
Our first trike build
creation!
We bought this bike as a virtual
wreck. It hardly rode as it was twisted on the axle and the wheels buckled!
The square front tyre didn't help either - a proper tank slapper on every ride!

How the bike
stood when purchased in August 2009

Strip the bike
ready for the new frame work, axle and rigid rear end.

At this stage we stripped the
front end and replaced it with a full FZR 1000 front end.
Changing the top & bottom yokes, forks, wheel, discs etc.
We mirror polished everything and painted the front wheel centre.

Now we cut into the bike and
design the new rigid rear end.

The Wolf Race mega wide alloy
wheels arrive.
We mirror polish the wheels and hug them with massive 265/50/15 tyres!

Now we jig the rear end and align
the axle.

We have now completed the fabrication of the frame, made rigid and all fixed into position on the axle.

The first look at the bike in
stance with a mock up tank sitting on the new back bone.
The rear end is low to the deck and looks mentally wide!

After playing around with
different style fuel tanks, we have decided to go with this one.
We will of course be stripping it off and applying our own paint job.

Fitted with a single chrome speedo,
polished risers, Teardrop flame mirrors, Ape bars.
All the switch gear, levers and reservoirs are highly mirror polished and
finished with the new Cyclops headlight.

After purchasing the massive rear
fenders it turned out they were still not quite wide enough!
After fabricating the mounts on the axle and the fender brackets etc, we cut the
fender in half -
Then, fix a metal strip into place, with some trickery, fibre glass and filler
the fenders are now 3 inch wider.
This leaves plenty of room for the rear lights wiring to be moulded under the
fender and enough room to remove the wheel.

Rear fender fabrication. Design
and create the forward controls set up.
Electrics and battery/component compartment is made up and welded into the bikes
rear A-frame floor pan.

Next, the mounting brackets and
frame mounts for the forward controls are designed, cut and shaped from raw
steel.
Another metal working masterclass by Ade. We decided on fully polished controls
with the mounts to be chromed.

Trike-lops goes for paint!
We decided to go with classic lines with this job. After a Silver base coat, the
highlighted areas are marked and masked off.
We then apply a beautiful metallic Blue and begin to create the Marble effect in
the paint work.

Trike-lops shows off its colours!
The engine is painted and polished, new Conical air filters fitted. The rear
brake assembly is designed and
built to accommodate the new forward controls. New all LED rear tail lights are
wired and mounted.

We design and custom build the
seat carriage and in keeping with the rest of the Trike, it's minimal.
Front seat is made and fitted. All tailoring work done and the paint completed
on the rear seat carriage.
